The new millennium was when reggaeton really began to become popular outside of its native Puerto Rico, and artists like
Daddy Yankee,
Wisin & Yandel,
Trébol Clan, and
Rakim & Ken-Y began to have hits around North America. All of the aforementioned stars, plus ones like
Don Omar, Los Gargolas,
DJ Joe, and
Tony Touch are included on Universal Latino's year-end compilation
2007 Año de Éxitos Reggaeton, which makes the album a pretty good sampler of reggaeton in 2006 (with the exception of the song "La Locura Automática" by
La Secta Allstar, a group that seems to show up on many of the albums in the series regardless of deserving it, and a song that not even an appearance by Eddie Dee can save). ~ Marisa Brown
