Concept albums don't get much more esoteric, off-center and abstract than
Proton Accelerator's second album,
33°. This CD addresses conspiracy theories involving alleged secret societies, including the Freemasons. Most of the tracks don't have actual song structures, but rather, they consist of repetitive instrumental pop-rock tracks that are united with various samples, sound bites and speeches. On much of the CD, the pop-rock track drowns out a long speech, and it's hard to understand what the speaker is saying, but we can safely assume that the speaker is outlining the activities of one of those alleged secret societies. This is an interesting and intriguing CD as well as a peculiar one and a self-indulgent one --
Proton Accelerator probably realized that its appeal would be limited and did what it wanted anyway. Only the most patient listeners and those with a taste for the abstract will get into
33°. ~ Alex Henderson
