An astonishing leap from their already realized earlier singles,
8 A.M. All Day finds
Chisel branching out further into their mod-rock roots, with overwhemingly favorable results. Their trademark stripped-down production is still evident, but the addition of vocal harmonies on cuts such as "Hip Straights" and "Citizen of Venus" up the pop ante considerably. The musicianship is stronger, too, as evidenced by the morose guitar twang of "The Great Wall of China," and the instrumentals "Overture" and "Je M'Appelle Zero." ~ Brian Raftery
