Red Flag '77 is a band which let you know where they're coming from straight out of the gate. Aside from incorporating an appropriate vintage for the group's sobriquet, the album art includes photos of the band in full onstage regalia. Rikki Flag is shown channeling Darby Crash, while bassist John "Fanny" Adams does his best Sid impression. With this record, you have British punk, circa 1977, of course. Lotsa fun and plenty of sneer and curse words for all. These guys would work better putting out a few 7"s, rather than 21 tracks on a disc, but they keep it up well. The band spends the majority of its time in the stylistic area of first wave punk, but do give the occasional nod to a descendent of that music, with the full-on Oi! track of "Football Island." At any rate, this record provides fine background music for you and your mates to pogo away the night to. ~ Jeremy Salmon
