The fifth volume of the celebrated
A Very Special Christmas series gathers some of the new millennium's chart mainstays and MTV staples, as well as some of modern rock's rising stars supporting the Special Olympics. It's more of a tradition, and certainly a welcoming one at that, in the spirit of Christmas. With more than a dozen Christmas favorites, rock & roll shimmies and shakes with tracks by
Macy Gray ("This Christmas"),
Dido ("Christmas Day"), and
Eve 6 ("Noel, Noel"). Classic rockers such as
Stevie Nicks ("Silent Night") and
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers ("Christmas All Over") also lend a hand.
A Very Special Christmas, Vol. 5 does highlight some interesting duets, however.
B.B. King and
Blues Traveler's
John Popper get bluesy on "Back Door Santa," whereas
Wyclef Jean and
Stevie Wonder mix hip-hop and soul on "Merry Christmas Baby." ~ MacKenzie Wilson
