Moraes Moreira is a critic of the excessively commercial organization of the Carnival in Salvador, with its consequent de-characterization. Since 1983, he's toured Brazil with the Projeto Brasil, a repertory of frevos and other northeastern rhythms bridging the gap between the erudite and the popular. The initiative has produced two albums, O Brasil Tem Concerto and Morais Moreira Acústico. In this live acoustic album,
Moraes Moreira delivers some of his biggest hits, some still from the
Os Novos Baianos times: "Meninas Do Brasil," "Pão E Poesia," "Brasil Pandeiro," "Acabou Chorare," "Forró Do ABC," "Lá Vem O Brasil Descendo A Ladeira," "Pombo Correio," "Festa Do Interior" (recorded by
Gal Costa, was Brazil's biggest hit of 1982), "Vassourinhas," "Preta Pretinha," and others, in wonderful, swinging (if subtle) renditions. ~ Alvaro Neder
