The fourth CD of singer/songwriter
Belô Velloso brings a change of pace. Instead of the axé music flirt of the previous album, now
Velloso sings melodic and peaceful ballads accompanied by a sole violão (acoustic guitar). About half of the album is dedicated to studio recordings and the other half to live performances, where she interprets her best-known tunes. The highlights of an album where she interprets Alanis Morrissete ("Hand in My pocket") and Adriana Calcanhotto ("Canção Sem Nome") are the beautiful ballad "Acordar Pra Você" (
Caetano Veloso/
Belô Velloso) and the section dedicated to samba/MPB, with the wonderful sambas "Lágrima" (Sebastião Nunes/José Garcia/José Gomes Filho), "Desde Que O Samba é Samba" (
Caetano Veloso), and "Você Vai Me Seguir" (
Chico Buarque/Ruy Guerra). On these, she evidences a lack of the authentic samba swing (the rhythmic division of phrasing), and a great respect for the Brazilian music. ~ Alvaro Neder
