West African tradition is upheld in
Paul Horn's
Africa.
Horn delicately adds color to the texture of the original compositions by Guinean musician Sekou Camara Cobra. The music falls squarely within the realm of griots--hereditary West African storytellers and minstrels. The jazzy overtones of
Horn's flute and saxophone blend well with the syncopated rhythms of Sekou's percussion and guitar work. The songs are sung in the traditional languages of Malinke and Susa. ~ MusD
