The album, according to its press release, was inspired by a work of writer
Paul Bowles, and "is the story of a snake leaving its body to get reincarnated with its soul and habits into a Jedba (Trance) musician, leading him to an unknown consciousness of aural sensations." Western listeners won't be able to follow that particular storyline, as the lyrics aren't in English. But it's an interesting, though not wholly successful, blend of traditional Moroccan elements with 1990s electronics. Not quite as conventional as much rai music (to which this bears some resemblance), but without as mind-blowing an impact as the musicians seem to be striving for. ~ Richie Unterberger
