Overwhelmed by his own creativity with the release of All Melody in early 2018, Nils Frahm decided to release his next compositions over a period of time in the form of three EPs, both for the sake of coherence and to avoid inundating his audience. “The idea behind Encores is one we already had from before All Melody; to separate releases each with their own distinct musical style and theme” explained the artist. “But All Melody became larger than itself and took over any initial concepts. I think the idea of Encores is like musical islands that complement All Melody.”
All Encores brings together these three islets: the first is rather minimalist, designed around a piano and harmonium, the second is more ambient, for which Frahm used a recording technique involving an amplified stone well in Majorca, while on Encore 3 the German hybrid pianist explores his electronic side further. The result is a total of 12 tracks which are still as inspiring as ever, and the Hi-Res quality only goes to amplify the magic. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
