This ten-song LP, issued in 1973, consists of sides licensed from Folkways Records. The material -- all in mono (and "electronically re-recorded to simulate stereo") avoids
Seeger's more confrontational repertory in favor of traditional ballads that seem especially suited to young listeners. The performances are first-rate, and given Olympic Records' bargain price -- they were a budget division of the Everest label under
Bernie Solomon -- this was probably the way that a lot of budget-conscious listeners in the 1970s got to hear
Seeger's work for the first time. The content represents
Seeger at his most unchallenging and accessible, but otherwise this is one of the almost too numerous reissues of his work.
