This Music Masters CD, released in 1991, contains altoist
Vincent Herring's earliest recordings (some of which predate his association with
Nat Adderley). Actually his
Cannonball Adderley-inspired style was already recognizable.
Herring is the dominant soloist throughout with pianists
John Hicks and
Bruce Barth making significant contributions. The material has a nice balance between fiery pieces and laidback ballads and most of the solos tend to be concise, melodic and swinging.
