Ancient of Days can loosely be classified as a rock album, but its form shifts closer to the alternative/grunge end of this musical style. The band, also called
Ancient of Days, is compiled of four young men who began playing in bars during their mid-teens. While playing in bars they were involved heavily with drugs and alcohol, and had a not-unusual teenage boy obsession with sex. When they became Christians, they shifted the focus of their songs, but kept the same music style. The result is that their debut album,
Ancient of Days, is a collection of songs that few over the age of 18 will enjoy. Although the words are wholesome, the music style brings to mind a sea of unwashed, half-naked bodies moshing in a concrete jungle in the middle of an urban center. This contradiction, combined with the shouting, heavy drums and two-chord electric guitar playing, makes the album more irritating than enjoyable. ~ Diana Moes VandeHoef
