The Peacocks are often lumped in with other third wave punk and ska bands, which is misleading. True, they appear on a ska/punk label, Asian Man Records, and the band plays a fast, melodic brand of punk with a sense of humor. However, on tracks such as "Innocent," "Can't Explain," and "Come On," they also display a remarkable talent for and appreciation of rockabilly, showing that, unlike most third wave punk bands, they have a grasp of punk history that extends beyond the likes of
Green Day. The Peacocks' use of an upright bass to anchor their sound further distinguishes them in a crowded punk field. In addition to the tracks already mentioned, other standouts on
Angel include "Please Not Now," "I Don't Like No One," and "I Want My Money Back." ~ Robert Kaups
