Indianapolis indie pop act Margot and the Nuclear So & So's have a thorny name and an equally thorny story behind Animal! Due to the band and label not quite being on the same page, there are two different versions of the album, sharing some tracks but otherwise different. Animal! is the band’s preferred take -- the mix of hushed grace and pop songcraft is a winner. "Cold, Kind and Lemon Eyes" is a sparse acoustic ballad reminiscent of Elliott Smith that takes gentle flight with strings and sparse choral voices, and, following its title, "Hello Vagina" uses off-kilter plucked strings to tilt things just slightly.
