Amnesia Scanner refer to their debut full-length as an exercise in "avant-EDM." Another Life is filled with the battering beats and showering feedback common to the duo's previous recordings, but they're molded into strange, sometimes grotesque pop songs. Jarring, mutilated electronic vocals are at the center of most of the album's songs, and the lyrics seem to celebrate technology while also expressing the horror of having no escape from it. The group splices dembow, metal, and gabber on hair-raising tracks like "AS Another Life" and "AS Faceless," which feature shrieks and metal machine riffs battling with the abrasive beats. There are a few relatively calm moments, such as the floating space'n'bass of "AS Spectacult" and "AS Chain," but all of that comes crashing down on the frenetic "AS Chaos," as Pan Daijing shouts "All around you, it's just chaos chaos chaos!" over a blinding cyber-trap rhythm. Claustrophobic yet adrenalized, Another Life is a goth-rave nightmare transmitted from an apocalyptic future.
