Krautrock figureheads
Dieter Moebius and
Hans-Joachim Roedelius returned to their
Cluster project in 1989 following an eight-year hiatus. The duo worked on the five pieces that made up
Apropos Cluster in Austria over the course of 1989 and 1990, implementing new age synth tones, vocal samples, and a variety of nontraditional rhythmic elements on the album's five instrumental meditations. Particularly experimental and meandering is the album's final selection, the nearly 22-minute title track. Over its lengthy run the track gets into airy dreamscapes, segments of jagged synth tones, and even proto-glitch electronic beats. ~ Fred Thomas
