Zé Renato is a young singer with lots of gratitude and respect for the truest Brazilian musical tradition. In this first solo work (he is a member and creator of
Boca Livre, one of the best vocal groups in Brazil since 1978), devoted to the influential singer/composer Sylvio Caldas, a superstar during the "Era de Ouro da canção brasileira" (golden age of the Brazilian song, the years 1930/1940), he performs doleful songs with unusual sensitivity and samba grooves with contagious enthusiasm, following the tracks of the master. Surrounded by some of the best musicians in Brazil, he covers Caldas' hits, like "Maringá," "Faceira," "Chão de Estrelas," and several others. ~ Alvaro Neder
