Bassist
Santi Debriano contributed seven of the nine selections to this set and takes occasional solos but he is also generous in featuring the other players. The exotic and haunting violin of
Miri Ben-Ari contrasts well with the more conventional but no less passionate tenor of
Abraham Burton while pianist
Helio Alves also has plenty of solo space. The interplay between
Burton and
Ben-Ari on "Liberty Road" is a highpoint as are some of the individual solos, particularly
Burton's on "Trance Dance." The music is post-bop, at times quite melodic, consistently stirring and filled with surprising moments, particularly when the music builds and builds to an intense level. Well worth several listens. ~ Scott Yanow
