Latin rockers Huecco have crafted a seamless mix of rock, pop, hip-hop, son, and samba that the band calls “rumbaton.” Their 2006 debut album made a big splash in the Latin pop world, and the follow-up, ASSALTO, tones down the reggaeton aspect of the sound a bit, pushing the band’s rock influences a little more to the forefront. Cuts like the opening track, “Mis Bichitos,” strike the perfect blend of driving rock and percolating Latin rhythm, while there are plenty of other stylistic detours over the course of the album, from flamenco-flecked ballads to hip-hop/pop/Latin hybrids.
