There's absolutely no doubt that
Ricardo Silveira is a technically superb jazz guitarist. Curiously, there's not a great deal of Brazilian flavor to this album, even though it was recorded in Brazil, with Brazilian personnel and horn arrangers (one of whom is
Silveira himself). Instead, this feels like a straight-ahead soft jazz album. It's masterful in its own way, although those who like an edge to their jazz, or are hoping for a real Brazilian feel, will be disappointed. Devotees of the guitar will be constantly astounded at the man's ability. That alone warrants repeated playings. ~ Chris Nickson
