This string tribute to
AC/DC eschews the quartet arrangement favored by Vitamin for these projects, and instead features a fleet of violins, viola, and cellos augmented by bass and drums. All the hits are here -- most notably, "Back in Black," "You Shook Me All Night Long," and "Hells Bells" -- and these favorites are augmented by classic
AC/DC fare such as the anthem "Rock & Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" and "Have a Drink on Me." But while it does a nice job with its set list, the String Quartet Tribute to AC/DC doesn't really have much to say. The songs' robust riffs and blue-collar rhythms translate pretty well, especially to the cello, viola, and bass. But beyond the immediate novelty of hearing these classic cuts churned out on strings, there's little lasting effect. ~ Johnny Loftus
