Back in the Dayz: Airborne Anthology is a 2011 career overview from the New Haven, Connecticut-based, contemporary jazz outfit. More of a living will than a retrospective, Back in the Dayz features an even mix of new material and selections from past releases like Turbulence, Winds of Change, New Horizons, and their 1990 debut, Take Off. Hardly a straight-up smooth jazz unit, Airborne is as equally at home dialing in African, Latin, and Caribbean rhythms and cinematic, new age vistas as it is supplying cocktail ambience, and this fine collection serves up 17 reasons why they’ve managed to stay in the game for over 20 years.
