NCT DREAM has undergone a massive transformation since debuting in 2016: Originally, the septet was intended to be the youthful NCT subunit, but age and an undeniable talent for teen-pop and hip-hop bars changed things. That’s never been as evident as it is on the repackage of Beatbox – The 2nd Album, originally released as Glitch Mode – The 2nd Album in March 2022. The retro-futuristic trap of “Glitch Mode,” the 2000s party-rap of “Saturday Drip,” and the glossy funk of “Better Than Gold” hit as hard as ever, but NCTzen will be most excited to hear four new tracks: the anthemic pop of “Beatbox,” the R&B ballad “To My First,” the soft-rock “Sorry, Heart,” and new coda “On the way,” a romantic track to close this new chapter.
