In early 2011, Universal’s
Icon series took on the heaviest hitters from Clarence Avant's Tabu label:
Alexander O’Neal,
the S.O.S. Band, and
Cherrelle, all of whom benefitted from Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis' hit-making touch. These discs effectively replaced each artist’s Greatest Hits disc issued several years prior.
Cherrelle’s
Icon disc differs slightly from her Greatest Hits, as it incorporates a handful of extended mixes -- most certainly to a Jam and Lewis freak’s benefit -- includes an additional track off 1988’s
Affair (“Keep It Inside,” a neglected but excellent duet with
O’Neal), and throws in the Top 30 R&B single “Tears of Joy” from 1992’s
