It doesn't matter how sweet
the Delfonics sound on these re-recordings ("in stereo," noted by the Curb label, as an apparent selling point in 2005). There's no way that they could be preferable to the original versions. The arrangements are quite faithful, but the sound of the instruments is often chintzy and thin -- watery wedding chapel keyboards, for instance -- no different than what you'd hear on a low-budget recording from the early '90s. "Ready or Not Here I Come," "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time," and "La La (Means I Love You)" are sung with all the necessary spirit, but the other elements are too much of a sticking point to recommend the set to anyone. ~ Andy Kellman
