A generally impressive assortment of rarities,
Biscuits will be of interest primarily to more hardcore
Living Colour devotees rather than casual listeners. Highlights of this diverse EP range from a rock/funk cover of
James Brown's "Talkin' Loud and Sayin' Nothing'" to a soulful reggae-influenced remake of
Jimi Hendrix's "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" to invigorating live versions of "Desperate People" and "Memories Can't Wait."
Al Green's "Love and Happiness" has seldom been transformed into a rock song, but that's exactly what happens here -- and with likable results. But as much as
Biscuits has going for it, those new to
LC should start out with
Vivid. ~ Alex Henderson
