Les cinéphiles se souviennent sans doute de « l’heure bleue » décrite avec intensité par Éric Rohmer dans son film Les Aventures de Reinette et Mirabelle (1987). C’est un peu à ce moment court, magique et ambivalent (la minute de silence qui achève la nuit et précède l’aube) auquel on pense à l’écoute de ce huitième album de Keren Ann, dont le fil conducteur est, précisément, la couleur bleue. Ce qui se dégage avant tout des dix chansons, c’est une ligne fine et ambiguë entre l’euphorie et la mélancolie, la vie et la mort. Corolaire à la couleur bleue, le thème de l’eau est présent dans de nombreux morceaux. Il est à première vue associé à un certain bien-être, ce que traduisent des mélodies et des arrangements d’une suavité extrême. Le rythme lancinant, les harmonies gracieuses et la texture orchestrale si riche et bienveillante de la chanson d’ouverture (Les Jours heureux) pourraient être comparés à une croisière sur une mer sans tempête. Et dans Nager la nuit, c’est un piano droit quasiment aquatique qui flatte l’oreille, ainsi que des cordes qui semblent être, curieusement, à la fois amples et secrètes. Mais la litanie du refrain (« Il me tue cet amour / Il me tue cet amour… ») met en revanche l’accent sur la mélancolie et l’angoisse qui peuvent accompagner l’ivresse liée à ce bien-être. La noyade n’est jamais loin.

Même sentiment d’entre-deux dans Sous l’eau (clin d’œil à la romancière Virginia Woolf), ainsi que dans Le goût était acide, dont la basse ronde, l’ambiance élégamment décadente, et la voix parlée de Keren Ann rappellent l’univers de Serge Gainsbourg/Jean-Claude Vannier. Écrit, composé et produit par Keren Ann, Bleue donne également l’occasion de retrouver la voix si solaire et consolante de la chanteuse d’origine israélienne. C’est elle qui porte l’album à bout de bras, même si l’on croise, ici ou là, la plume de Doriand, ainsi que la voix du chanteur de Talking Heads, David Byrne (dans le délicieux Le Goût d’inachevé). © Nicolas Magenham/Qobuz
