Moebius, one half of the classic German duo Cluster, returns to form with this superlative slab of gnarled audio on Canada's idiosyncratic Scratch label. Since the sonic microforms of Cluster were always notoriously difficult to attribute to either individual, the mystery remained as to which of the two were responsible for the more oddball sounds, but of course, that very mystery made the duo's enigmatic reputation. Listening to BLOTCH, and acknowledging Roedelius' later-period piano-based minimalist works, Moebius seems to have been the one who twirled the knobs.
Radiating through the stereophonic ooze are rotational particles attempting to form rhythms, melodies frozen in liquid nitrogen, and sounds that are certainly not of this earth. Revel in the pulse polemics of "The Tracker," the primordial shifting ooze of "Ondulation," and the tones in a tempest that imbue "Im Raum" and "Kohlzug" with Moebius' particular brand of genius.
