Latitude, aka the duo of vibist/percussionist
Craig Peyton and guitarist John Putnam, is a little deceptive. Just as they're about to ease your mind into a cool, ambient state of hypnosis, they turn up the electro and natural percussion elements and get your toes tapping. On the multi-faceted Blue Curve, they employ every sound that fits in the outlet, from synth bells to spacey sound effects, to create a heightened consciousness of edgy new age. The melodies, which are somewhere between spacial oddity and pure pop, grow on you through a unique combination of guitars and vibes. Just when the comfort zone kicks in, they send us into an Eastern mysticism vibe that changes the mood from playful to pensive. Somewhere along the line, these two seem to have picked up a few rock and roll records, and these electric guitar drivers are the best tracks. Overall, it's scattered fun, but always unique and entertaining. ~ Jonathan Widran
