Though it's more adept at building grooves from the sample up than on any new sounds,
Funky Derrick's
Boogie Dawn is an interesting record, hardly serious but all the more fun for it. Singles like "Keep It Up" and "Bang Liberation" weave the usual vocal snippets around elastic basslines and mainstream house effects. Overall, it's a great record for disco and electronica fans looking for music that straddles the divide between up-tempo music for the home as well as the club. [
Boogie Dawn is also available in a release with added bonus tracks.] ~ John Bush
