The Rio Jazz Orchestra devoted this album to older and newer classics of the Brazilian repertory, like
Noel Rosa's "Conversa de botequim," "Asa branca," "Canção do sal," "O morro não tem vez," "Folhas secas," "Amazonas," "Garota de Ipanema," and others, to the total of 10 songs. The high instrumental quality and arranging finesse sometimes doesn't translate well the simplicity of some fundamental songs like "Conversa de botequim," which in some places submerge under the weight of rococo writing, but the hot, swinging songs like "Na baixa do sapateiro" and "O morro não tem vez" bring the impact of Brazilian rhythms under a beautiful jazzy outlook. The album represents a genuine effort of offering an universal reading of the Brazilian songwriting through amazing performers.
