When the Beatles took over the American pop charts in early 1964, they helped alert the world to something little known outside the British isles -- the U.K. was home to a thriving pop music scene, and dozens of great acts were waiting for their chance to shine. The "British Invasion" was the name given to the explosion of great bands from England that would make a name for themselves on radio, in concert halls, and on the sales charts through much of the '60s. British Invasion is a three-disc set that collects songs from leading U.K. artists who charted at home and abroad during the '60s and '70s, including Gerry and the Pacemakers, Herman's Hermits, Freddie & the Dreamers, Billy J. Kramer, Wayne Fontana, and more. Please note that nearly all the performances on this set are latter-day re-recordings and not the familiar original versions listeners are most likely to remember.
