Caecilie Norby's eponymous album is not only her first American album, it is also her first striaght jazz album. Although her music still has strong pop, rock, and fusion overtone, the set leans more toward the slick textures of contemporary jazz. There are some very good moments on the record -- particularly
Norby's vocals and
Randy Brecker's trumpet solos -- but it demonstrates that she still needs to work out the kinks in her music before she become truly distinctive. ~ Thom Owens
