Sequoia's Cafe de Luna presents a dozen global fusion and world trance tracks from artists including
Ginkgo Garden,
Opera to Relax, and Roykey. Most tracks, such as Althea W.'s "Djambee,"
Steve Gordon's "Spiritrunner," and Rodelius' "Cheerweed," place subtle chanted and choral vocals atop understated electronic beats and vaguely world music-inspired instrumentation that spans everything from bamboo flutes to guiros. Other highlights include Roykey's "Saving the World" and
David and Steve Gordon's "Flowering Tree." Fans of the
Buddha Lounge series -- which Sequoia also releases -- will probably enjoy Cafe de Luna, but world music and dance music purists should probably stay away. ~ Heather Phares
