When originally released on Polydor in 1990,
Camera Talk was only a minor success. The album marked the first outing of
Flipper's Guitar as a duo, and a first run at experimentation beyond their usual musical borders.
Camera Talk holds a torch in its influences, with the new rock & roll of Japan's 1980s (such as
Unicorn) present in equal measure with new wave British ideas, as well as stray musical references to classic American rock & roll. Going even further, jazz is represented here and there, with a nod to the classic
Jimmy Smith/
Wes Montgomery recordings in tracks like "Young, Alive, in Love." With a re-release in 2006, the album found its way back into mainstream consciousness.
