Second album by
Nei Lisboa, and the first for the major EMI, after the independent opening. The following release would be disturbed by the car accident in which he lost his girlfriend, closing the doors of success when everything was ready -
Nei lost the big wave of Brazilian rock of the 80's. Even if he is more into ballads and reggae (as this album shows) instead of rock, Brazilian rock is just another label - one of the most important bands of that movement,
Os Paralamas do Sucesso, played ska/reggae more than anything else.
Nei's biggest triumphs are his unusual lyrics and catchy melodies, but there is some incongruity between the soft arrangements and the strong lyrics throughout the album. "Junky," "Schultzienietsin's down," with their depressive mood depicted in the lyrics, suffer from this incoherence, because of the light instrumental backing. The aggressive "Carecas da Jamaica," with guest Humberto Gessinger (
Engenheiros do Hawaii), presents a bit more stamina, but not enough. The album evidences a strong lyricist and melodist, but lacks energy.
