Jennifer Licko is a modern-day Scottish Gaelic singer. She utilizes her exceptionally pleasing and gentle Celtic vocals on this 11-track collection of ancient folk tunes to pragmatically illustrate that most Scottish songs were traditionally sung a cappella. She goes one step further to demonstrate her uniqueness by mixing in such classic instruments as the fiddle, whistle, pipes, and bodhran. Her uniqueness and obvious fondness and appreciation of her heritage makes Cave of Gold all the more appealing. One can feel the warmth of her voice in the melancholy "Peggy and the Soldier" and the strength of it in the inducing "Ready for the Storm." A wide mix of songs that showcase the versatility of Licko's talent on this worthy first effort.
