In their debut release,
The Mesa Music Consort have created a cycle of musical offerings that draws its inspiration from Native American ceremonies suited to the magical times of dusk and dawn. Using synthesizers, rattles, Native flutes and drums, their music is similar in style to their labelmates,
The Native Flute Ensemble, except that
The Mesa Music Consort give greater emphasis to synthesizers over flutes. Many moods are conveyed here, from the bright, catchy opening piece, "Clan Gathering," to the atmospheric synthesizer swirls of "West Wind Facings" to the closing percussion invocation "Drumming for Dawn." While not really breaking any new ground, Ceremonies of Dusk and Dawn is a pleasing addition to the neo-Native American catalog. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats
