Def Jef's second sets his conversational rapping style against a background of jazz-like, bass-propelled beats. While the occasional track works -- "Fa Sho Shot" being a prime example -- too much of Chopper comes off undercooked; long stretches rely only on minimal, bare-bones rhythms that fail to generate much excitement.
