Clark Terry leads his short-lived big band during a 1978 concert in Warsaw, Poland that was evidently taped for broadcast.
Terry is, of course, the primary soloist, featuring his brilliant flugelhorn and swinging vocals in "Just Squeeze Me," while alto saxophonist
Chris Woods and pianist
Hilton Ruiz make their presence known following
Terry's hot solo in the breakneck interpretation of
Thelonious Monk's "Straight, No Chaser." Also valuable are extended workouts of
Kenny Dorham's "Una Mas," and
Frank Wess' "Shell Game." The only downside of this Polish LP is its obvious bootleg status, given away by the pathetic cover art and sloppy listing of some of the songs and composers. But the performances themselves make this hard-to-find album worth looking for.
