This would be a more cohesive collection if not for the two Mama and Papa Stairsteps' songs: "Windows of the World" and "I Remember You," both eloquently done, but misfit here. All the artists record on Buddah Records and the title is a pseudonym for label mates. The Stairsteps, sans Mama and Papa, do "Million to One" and "Something Missing," topping a cast of tracks by Henry Lumpkin,
Timothy Wilson,
Judy White (
Josh White's daughter), and Tony Lamarr. A good find because many of these tracks aren't readily available elsewhere, and a good candidate for reissuing on CD with additional tracks, providing they drop Mama and Papa Stairsteps' '40s revival.
