After offering up a sneak preview with the track "1 2 3" on Moneybagg Yo's 2020 album Time Served, he and fellow Memphis rapper Blac Youngsta teamed up once again for mixtape Code Red. Much of the 13-song project is in the same mold of hard-hitting aggression, diabolical wordplay, and ruthless crime raps as was foreshadowed with "1 2 3." The project is front-loaded with a trifecta of angry, intense trap tracks, "Birthplace," "Super Hot," and "Said Sum" all cracking with equal parts lyrical power and sinister hooks. Both rappers get fairly even time in the spotlight on the tracks that stick strictly to collaboration between the two, and their various styles are similar (falling in line with the Memphis rap dialect) but different enough to be complimentary. Elsewhere on Code Red, Blac Youngsta and Moneybagg Yo are joined by Yo Gotti, Lil Migo, Big 30, and others, but the energy never lets down. In particular, a remix of "Said Sum" featuring additional verses from City Girls and a signature cameo from DaBaby and the seething performance from 42 Dugg on "Gun Smoke" add to the unrelenting force that comes to define the mixtape.
