The Tone Casualties label, upon which the idiosyncratic music of Accidental Orchestra is released, has played home to some of modern music's most original thinkers, among them Paul Schutze, Holger Czukay, and Air Liquide's Dr. Walker. Accidental Orchestra is a loose collective of Hungarian and Eastern European artists, who effectively morph the concept of chamber music into the 21st century.
Supplanting traditional acoustic instruments with those of the post-modern age (synths, samplers, electronic percussion, and a lot of studio processing), the Orchestra creates mini-electronic fugues that push the limits of originality and experimentalism. "Ambitions in Battle Syrup" suggests the bustling of large underground insect hives in preparation for battle, as clicking electronics and obtuse studio trickery vie for attention, while the 10-plus minute "Prominent Shortcomings" features warped tabla patterns, synthetic thunder, and strident synths that etch out almost Escher-like outlines in sound.
