Edu Lobo is one of the few composers in Brazil who kept his artistic integrity and continued a successful musical career through the decades, during a critical period where commercial opportunism has producing superfluous merchandise bands by the hundreds. In this (as always in his case, acoustic) album, he brings a selection of Brazilian grooves (Northeastern frevo and baião, Brazilian modinha, toada, and Southeast samba-canção, samba, choro-canção, and ballad) with illustrious partners such as
Paulo César Pinheiro,
Chico Buarque, and
Aldir Blanc, always backed by excellent musicians. Highlights here are the title track - an instrumental baião, "Ave Rara," wonderfully re-recorded by
Vânia Bastos, and the splendid quotation of Villa-Lobos "Prelude #3" in a samba rendition.
