Hip-hop fans' first peek at Rufus Blaq's credentials came with his contributions to the RIDE and PLAYER'S CLUB soundtracks. These cuts gave folks a pretty good idea of what to expect from his debut; a blunt-smokin', trash-talkin' hustler with a laconic rapping style, who'd rather do the nasty than bust a cap. It's Blaq's underplayed delivery that keeps even the most lyrically extreme tracks on CREDENTIALS from sounding over-the-top. The sample sources for the songs come from far and wide; "Make It Hot" undoubtedly achieves a first, sampling Yes's "Owner Of A Lonely Heart." Elsewhere, there are borrowings from Blondie, Grover Washington, Jr. and others. For those into the overheated antics of artists like R.
