The debut album from Freshkills finds the Brooklyn five-piece joyously exploring their hardcore roots while managing to make an exciting racket of their own. Taking a trip down the hardcore and Dischord-ant highways of Drive Like Jehu and Nation of Ulysses, singer Zachary Lipez sings, shrieks, and mugs over a raucous tumult, while leaving room for melody, such as on “Hot Ex Wife Action.” While not doing anything particularly new or different, the band clearly does it with honesty and genuine enthusiasm, which in a surface era like the early 2000s is reason enough to appreciate it..
