Initially released through the band's website as a limited-edition pressing of 1,000, the 1999 set Davy Jones’ Locker was reissued in 2001 by the esteemed March Records. Anglophile pop fans who’d never thought to look at the Hershey, Pa.–based The Ocean Blue as viable popsters discovered the sublime beauty of David Schelzel’s “Denmark.” Fans of Echo & the Bunnymen, The Smiths, and The Go-Betweens added these unassuming vets to their list of ‘60s-inspired pop gurus. The deep album cuts “My Best Friend,” the instrumental “Cukaloris,” and the Rob Minnig/Oed Ronne tracks “Consolation Prize” and “Been Down a Lot Lately” demonstrate the band’s versatility.
