After a debut EP (Tenderly),
Geri King released her debut full-length one year later, also with production by Kimo Kaulani. Exploring past the poor graphic design reveals that
King is a contemporary R&B singer with plenty of soul; the opener, "Once," balances a solid minimalist urban production and
King's sweet voice. Though there's no shortage of imaginative tracks and soulful singing, some of the other tracks suffer from a throwback style that sounds more like 1985 than 2002. Get
Geri King into a real studio with real engineers and some solid songs, and the world would get an R&B vocalist on the level of
Alicia Keys or
Ashanti. ~ John Bush
