The artists formerly known as
Bad Company were quick to follow their 2000 album debut Inside the Machine with a second long-player incarnation. With Dan Stein taking care of much of the production, the album took a step away from their contemporaries at Virus and Renegade Hardware with a new direction which, though still utilizing the two step percussive patterns and razor wire basslines of its predecessor, found itself dominated by a bastardized techno synth dynamic. From the opening title track and the much-vaunted Sage vocalled "Breathe" right through to the closing whispers of "Navajo,"
John Carpenter-esque synth lines dominate a landscape of jittery beats and speed freak melodics. Like a soundtrack to a yet to be made late-night, futurist drama. ~ Kingsley Marshall
